How to Create a Carpet Binding Tape

Carpet binding tape is a great way to add a finished look to your carpet edges. It is easy to create your own carpet binding tape, and it can be customized to match the color of your carpet or your decor. Here are the steps to create your own carpet binding tape:

Step 1: Measure the length of the carpet edge that needs to be bound. Add a few inches to this measurement to allow for any mistakes or adjustments.

Step 2: Cut the fabric into strips that are 3 inches wide and the length you measured in step 1.

Step 3: Fold the fabric strip in half lengthwise, with the right sides facing each other.

Step 4: Sew the long edge of the fabric strip together, leaving a 1/4 inch seam allowance. You can use a sewing machine or hand sew this step.

Step 5: Turn the fabric strip right side out and press it flat with an iron.

Step 6: Cut a piece of fusible webbing tape to the length of the fabric strip. Place the fusible webbing tape on the wrong side of the fabric strip, along the open edge.

Step 7: Fold the fabric strip in half again, encasing the fusible webbing tape inside. Press the fabric strip with an iron to activate the fusible webbing tape and create a strong bond.

Step 8: Attach the carpet binding tape to the carpet edge. You can use a hot glue gun or a carpet binding machine for this step. Apply the binding tape to the carpet edge, making sure it is centered and straight. Fold the binding tape over the edge of the carpet and secure it in place.

Step 9: Trim any excess carpet binding tape from the edges of the carpet.
